Adult Adoption

In California, any adult may adopt any other adult who is at least ten years younger, except their spouse. Everyone must agree to the adoption in writing, including each party’s spouse (although there are some exceptions).

Our firm can represent either the adoptee or the adopting parents. We prepare and file all necessary paperwork, including a petition for adoption, points and authorities, agreements , consents and the final decree. If an investigation by the Department of Social Services is required, we will make arrangements for this and oversee it. There is a court proceeding prior to finalization. Once the adoption is granted, if a new birth certificate is requested, we will assist in securing it from the appropriate state office. Adult adoptions may be completed quickly.
